Nothing to Wear!

My 9 year-old said this when I told her not to wear a summer dress to church. She was right. She had outgrown her fall/winter outfits. So off to Goodwill. Purchased a $4.99 women’s corduroy dress and a $0.45 Simplicity 2767 pattern. Was able to make her a dress with the sleeves just a little short. I used the bodice pattern pieces then just gathered the skirt to fit.

I am also working on a matching jacket using Simplicity 5959 for my Butterick 6067 dress. I’ll be using French seams since it is so sheer. Wonder if I can also do that for the armholes.

I had put off making the jacket because I hate armscyes and sleeves. I had initially used the sleeve material for a pinafore when my daughter was 3 years old.

The fabric is very special to me because it was given to me by my aunt who died of breast cancer this year. She said that it was handpainted pina fabric which is made fibers of pineapple leaves from the Philippines.

I’m really enjoying using my dress form! Also I have been using Frixion pens on my muslin and they work great. The ink disappears with heat. I have read that they come back a little when it is exposed to freezing temperatures though. I have not tried washing and then freezing. Below left is before and right is after ironing. Amazing!

I have been working on a muslin trying to adjust for narrow shoulder and broad back at the same time. Any suggestions?

I did make a pie for my husband for finishing my dress form stand. We ate the whole thing.

Hope you are having a good week so far.
